Alphas Review

Hey, how are you all today? I’m PSYCHED because Spring Break’s right around the corner for me, so I’m having potlucks in every class tomorrow and Friday. It’s simply amazing, really, the way holiday breaks work. Just kidding. I’m just in a really peppy mood today, haha 🙂

Okay, well, I don’t really have too much to tell you, except that you should really fill out those Divergent Giveaway forms. Divergent Week is just so close that I literally CAN’T WAIT! Tomorrow I should post the calendar of Divergent Week, so be looking forward to that. Anyways, I might make another Updates post because there’s some social media stuff I want to talk to you guys about. So stay tuned 😀

The book I will be reviewing today is Alphas by Lisi Harrison.

Alphas Rating: 6.5/10

There’s only one word I can say for this book: Great. It was full of drama and vivid descriptions, along with the occasional girl cat fight and the next day full of friendship. I was shocked at how amazing it could be. Unfortunately, the book seemed a bit too girly and dramatic at certain times, and the actual storyline of the book was, well, thumbs-down.

Description:

Skye Hamilton, eighth-grade queen bee of Lisi’s The Clique Series (which I loved, by the way), is moving on to high school. And what school could she go to other than Alpha Academy, the school made importantly for Alphas? It’s the perfect dream. Charlie’s mother has worked with the founder of Alpha Academy all her life, and Charlie’s even in a relationship with one of the founder’s many sons, but Charlie’s afraid she might have to break up with him since she’s going to be attending a different school far away from Alpha Academy. When Charlie is offered free enrollment to the school if her mother quits her job, Charlie knows what she must to in order to save the relationship – even though she takes the bait, the headmistress at Alpha Academy makes her break up with her son anyway. Allie J Abbott is there on a mistake – after breaking up with her boyfriend, she receives a letter directed to Allie A Abbott – will Allie steal her letter? And how will the girls’ stay all turn out?

My Thoughts:

Oh my gosh. The descriptions of Alpha Academy were so vivid I could cry. Lisi Harrison really did a good job of creating a fantasy island where everything is perfect. While I felt that Lisi did an amazing job with descriptions, I felt like the characters’ personalities were too shallow and she didn’t do quite a good job with dialogue. The book was mainly about girls after guys, and I don’t feel like girls need boyfriends to make them feel better.

This is good for people who are

Alphas would be a good fit for

-romance lovers

-contemporary lovers

-people who love books about teenage girls (and not in the creepy, I-am-a-45-year-old-man sort of way)

-basically anyone over the age of 13

Basically, . . .

Basically, I believe that the best part of Alphas was the school’s description, and the character’s personalities. I really hated Allie J Abbott throughout the whole book, I couldn’t exactly relate to Charlie, and Skye was the only one I actually liked. The storyline/plot was okay, at best, but Lisi’s school was the most amazing part of the entire book. If you fit the This is good for people who are section, like, 100%, then this book is for you. I just don’t think it would be a good fit for everyone.

Thank you so much for reading this review today. Like I said in my “Updates” post (yes, I made it while I was writing up this review!), I’m just going to continue book reviews after Divergent Week is over so your week isn’t so packed with reading reviews. I’m really sorry if that makes anyone upset (if it does, tell me in the comments, okay?), and I just feel like it’s the best fit for me to not have to jam everything into one week. Now that means that the whole month of April will be filled! Yay! That’s a good thing, right? Stay tuned for Divergent Week next week!

Social Media & Updates *EDITED*

So many updates, don’t you think? And all in a two-day time span. That’s so crazy. Now, let me get to the point of this post:

About Social Media:

I am in the works of creating a Twitter account. I’ve never had a Twitter account before so please bear with me! I’m going to probably create it in the next week or so, since I’m super busy with reviews and stuff. As for GoodReads, would you like me to create one especially for The Crazy Bookshelf? It’s really up to you guys 🙂 Leave some comments on your opinions, kay?

About Updates:

I guess the social media stuff counts as updates, right? But there’s more. I’m most likely going to be posting the Divergent Week agenda tomorrow, it just depends on how much homework/studying I have to do. That’s scheduled for tomorrow but it could be put up by Saturday at the latest. Also, don’t forget to fill out your Divergent PDF form! Like I mentioned before (did I?), I will be giving away 3 PDF copies of Divergent by Veronica Roth and 1 PDF copy of both Divergent and Insurgent away. Be expecting a ton of new reviews, including Alphas by Lisi Harrison and LA Candy by Lauren Conrad. I’m still about two weeks behind my calendar of reviews, so be expecting a TON in the month of April! I think instead of uploading a whole bunch of reviews this week I’ll just save them all for April 🙂 which means I’ll be changing some of my schedule around. Please bear with me through this! I love you all so much ❤

20 Followers? OMG! & Updates

So, as of right now, I have 21 followers. How did I miss getting 20 followers in the first place?! That’s amazing! Thank you all for taking time to read my blog. It really means a lot to me, you know?

In honor of getting my first 20 followers, I’ve decided to create a GoodReads & Twitter account for The Crazy Bookshelf. I do currently have a GoodReads account but that’s a personal account, so . . . I’ll create an all-new one for you all 🙂 I really appreciate your support.

So, it’s time for some updates. I’ve just finished a few new books, so that’s going to be awesome, and I got three brand new ones today. Be looking forward to awesome reviews in April. The three books I did receive, unfortunately, are very small, but I got them because I was looking for a light read over Spring Break.

Additionally, I’m going to head over to my local library and pick up a series I read lightly last year but never really took the time to understand. If you are really curious, they’re part of the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld. I’m super excited to reread those! I’ve also read some other good books, so be looking to see those reviews.

As for me, I’ve been doing fine. I keep telling you guys I’ve been having big problems and stuff but so far I’ve been doing okay. It’s really upsetting thinking about what happened in the past few weeks but I’m sure I’ll be able to get through it 🙂 Once again, I really appreciate all you guys and gals do for me.

I am TOTALLY  ready for Spring Break! Depending on how soon I finish books (and how long it takes me to write reviews, since my calendar’s TOTALLY backed up) be expecting a TON coming soon! A week or two afterward things might slow down a bit, because of testing, you know.

Alrighty then, so I think that’s just about it. I can’t wait for April because, you know, a new month means a new beginning! At least to me it does. I really love all of you and I really hope you enjoy my blog.

Be expecting more reviews coming soon!

Stay Crazy! 😉 ❤

The Secrets of Peaches Review

Hi everyone! Once again, another apology for being so super late on my blog posts. Like I mentioned about a billion other times, I am two weeks late on my reviews which means you guys should be getting reviews in just about every day this week! Exciting, isn’t it? I promise I will never let you guys down like this again. I know I’ve probably lost all my followers but I am willing to work to gain them back again!

So that’s about all I’ve got for now 🙂 Thank you all for being patient while I am dealing with the mess that I call my life 🙂

The book I will be reviewing today is The Secrets of Peaches by Jodi Lynn Anderson.

The Secrets of Peaches Rating: 8.5/10

After the first book in this series, Peaches, I didn’t think the series could get any better. Oh, how I was wrong! The Secrets of Peaches literally blew me away. I extremely enjoyed hearing about Birdie, Leeda, and Murphy again. They are just such unique characters I wish they were real people. Once again, like in Peaches, I felt like I didn’t quite agree with the characters’ actions at certain points and I didn’t feel like their decisions were all too realistic.

Description:

The girls are back, and better than ever. Now visiting Darlington Orchard by choice, Murphy and Leeda realize that the orchard is falling into a deep panic – Birdie’s father just isn’t racking in enough cash. Through the spiral of misfortune, Murphy learns that she may not be accepted in her college of choice, Leeda’s mother may have a certain disease that sends her going crazy, and Birdie must face the difficulties of a long-distance relationship.

My Thoughts:

I was amazed by the quality of this book. When I didn’t think this book could be any better than its predecessor, I was wrong. That’s a perfect example of being pleasantly surprised. The girls were fun and sometimes I even wish I knew some people who were as exciting as these three. While it was amazing, I do feel like maybe the characters may have been too unrealistic. It’s just my thoughts, though, so don’t let me stop you from reading this super-awesome novel!

This is good for people who are

The Secrets of Peaches would be a good fit for

-romance lovers

-contemporary lovers

-people who enjoy a light, nice story

-people who like books about friendship

-anyone over the age of 14

Basically, . . .

Basically, The Secrets of Peaches is fun for a nice story that isn’t too intense. It’ll bring out the bubbly side of you and it might even make you giggle at times! (Didn’t think you could do that, could you?) Additionally, Spring Break is right around the corner, well for me anyway, so this would be the perfect time to drop by your local Barnes N’ Nobles and pick up a copy. I would really not recommend it for a book report book unless you’ve already done its first book, otherwise it would be too hard to explain. Quality advice there, people!

Once again, I am really really sorry about just leaving you all like that. I wish I could rewind time and fix everything I’ve ruined. I’m so sorry, you don’t know how upset I feel right now 😦

-Mariah

P.S. I’m thinking of linking some GoodReads, Facebook, and Twitter accounts very soon for The Crazy Bookshelf! (I will make separates just for the purpose of this blog.) How do you guys feel about that? Stay crazy!

-Mariah 🙂

Once again, I’m super sorry that I wasn’t able to do Divergent Week on the original date. Please forgive me, I was dealing with really important things at home and you know what that’s like. I love you all and I’m sorry for the temporary delay – trust me, it’s hurting me too. I have to catch up on everything and my whole schedule basically flopped. Expect to see at least one review every day this week, and possible next week as well. ❤

Where Have I Been?

Hey guys. I’ve been EXTREMELY busy for the past few weeks. I’m really sorry about that, but don’t worry, I will make up for any reviews I’ve missed as well as Divergent Week! You should be expecting that to come very soon. I wish I could’ve started on the day Divergent released but . . . family problems. Hopefully by the end of the week I can get up-to-date on my reviews. I hope nobody’s abandoned me just yet 🙂

Once again, I’m SUPER SUPER SUPER sorry that I haven’t been here for a few weeks. I PROMISE that I will get my missing reviews to you soon. I’ll put the Divergent Week poster up now. I am SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO sorry!! Please forgive me 🙂
