I’m Back! + Recommendations?

Hi everybody! Mariah here 🙂

So as you probably know from the title, I’m back! I had to deal with some huge problems in my life but hopefully now they’re done with and over for good. *happy dance*

Thank you so much if you stuck here for me! I know I’m a terrible blogger 😦 I know I just left everyone in the dark when I stopped posting. And I’m sorry for that. I’m sorry I couldn’t do book reviews, but the past is the past, and I can’t change that. I totally understand if you stop reading my reviews, and I won’t pressure you into coming back.

Thank you.

What do you want me to read next?

Alright, this is a question that’s been in the back of my mind since I started this blog. I know I don’t have many followers, and almost nobody comments on my posts 🙂  (why am I smiling about that? Haha!), but I just want your opinion on what I should read next. The books I’ve been reviewing aren’t too popular, but that’s just because I read a lot of books that aren’t too famous. So, I’m giving you a chance to comment and tell me what books I should read! (Keep in mind that they should be YA books. I’m not that old yet 😀 ) If you could, in your comment, can you also give me a link to where I can find that book cheap? Thanks if you do, but it’s COMPLETELY optional 🙂

Well, that’s just about it! I’m so glad I can start a new chapter with all of you.

Mariah 🙂

Stay crazy! 😛

Earthquake & Divergent Week

Whoa! Last night was really crazy. At about 9:09 p.m. PST, I was baking cookies like I’d mentioned in a post earlier, when the room began to shake hard. Apparently, there had been a 5.1 earthquake close in my area in California! Scar-y, if I may tell you myself, xD

Alright. That’s enough about earthquakes 🙂 I wanted to tell you that Divergent Week starts tomorrow! So excited!!! Remember to stay tuned, and keep sending in those forms! 😀

My “Uglies” Story

As you may know already, the Uglies series is one of my favorite series ever. (It’s by Scott Westerfeld – Check him out here: http://scottwesterfeld.com) Now, allow me to tell you the story of how I was reacquainted with the books.

Mariah’s “Uglies” Series Story

It all started last year, probably in late April or early May. I was in my school library, glancing around. As you may (or may not) know, my school library is absolutely TERRIBLE. The books are outdated and ripped. Only if there is nothing else on Earth may I give you permission to enter it’s doors. Well, I was in there (big surprise – yesterday was the first day I’d been in there since then!) and I just happened to see the spine of Uglies. I showed my friend, and told her I was going to check it out.

“No way,” she’d said, an amusing grin on her face. It was obvious she didn’t believe me, but she was wrong. I checked it out, and I was surprised how good it actually was! After I’d finished reading it, I checked out the entire rest of the series. I did all my book reports on the series, and by the time I’d finished reading the whole thing, the school year was already over.

Flash-forward to March 2014: I’d totally forgotten about the highly memorable series – instead I was catching up on Veronica Roth, John Green, and Marie Lu. I’d just finished publishing my post on TheCrazyBookshelf (my apologizing post, you can find it here: https://thecrazybookshelf.wordpress.com/2014/03/26/where-have-i-been/ ) when my iPod buzzed with an email. I lifted it up, opened my Mail app, and wasn’t too surprised when I got an email from iBooks, one of my favorite apps. I got emails from them a lot, so I clicked it. One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing that little red circle above the app in my home screen, so I tapped the email so it would be marked as “Read.”

I scrolled to the bottom of the email, and a headline caught my eye: “For Fans of Divergent.” I’m a fan of that book, so I checked the books listed under. And there it was – Uglies. I downloaded a sample and vowed myself that I’d check it out from the library. The very next day, I went back to my school library and pulled it off the shelf.

And that’s my story of how I got the book. Now I’m going to review it in just a few weeks. Thanks for reading my super-long story!

There we go. Italics are officially OFF! I’m so used to seeing them now xD

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I really love all of you ❤

Friday Has Officially STARTED!

Happy Friday everybody! I’m so excited and happy. I woke up an hour late this morning and I just decided, “Hey, what the heck. I won’t go to school today.” So I stayed home and slept, ate, and read – practically everything I do all day 🙂 I don’t consider Friday to actually start until nighttime, you know? Let the party begin!

Divergent Week is starting on Sunday. I am SOOOOO excited!! Still waiting for those PDF entires, though – try to submit yours to thecrazybookshelf@gmail.com soon. I can’t wait to upload my Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant reviews.

I believe that’s everything I have to say. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to throw some cookies in the oven and listen to some songs. Yum . . . this day just gets better and better, doesn’t it?

New Books, My Time

Hey guys and girls 🙂 Me again. Just wanted to let you all know that I finished a new book today, Followers by Anna Davies (really short book, I recommend it!) and I also checked out Uglies and Pretties by Scott Westerfeld. I am super excited to start rereading those books, they’re some of my favorites. I also purchased the first Kingdom Keepers book on my iPod app called iBooks (check that out!), so be looking forward to new reviews, kay?

This is my first time on the internet today. Hopefully things aren’t going to be this busy in the future, but watch out in case I post a review pretty late. I’m trying to aim to post reviews about 6:00 or 6:30 Pacific Standard Time, but some days I might be busier than usual. Really sorry about that. I hope to see you guys tomorrow! 😀

Alphas Review

Hey, how are you all today? I’m PSYCHED because Spring Break’s right around the corner for me, so I’m having potlucks in every class tomorrow and Friday. It’s simply amazing, really, the way holiday breaks work. Just kidding. I’m just in a really peppy mood today, haha 🙂

Okay, well, I don’t really have too much to tell you, except that you should really fill out those Divergent Giveaway forms. Divergent Week is just so close that I literally CAN’T WAIT! Tomorrow I should post the calendar of Divergent Week, so be looking forward to that. Anyways, I might make another Updates post because there’s some social media stuff I want to talk to you guys about. So stay tuned 😀

The book I will be reviewing today is Alphas by Lisi Harrison.

Alphas Rating: 6.5/10

There’s only one word I can say for this book: Great. It was full of drama and vivid descriptions, along with the occasional girl cat fight and the next day full of friendship. I was shocked at how amazing it could be. Unfortunately, the book seemed a bit too girly and dramatic at certain times, and the actual storyline of the book was, well, thumbs-down.

Skye Hamilton, eighth-grade queen bee of Lisi’s The Clique Series (which I loved, by the way), is moving on to high school. And what school could she go to other than Alpha Academy, the school made importantly for Alphas? It’s the perfect dream. Charlie’s mother has worked with the founder of Alpha Academy all her life, and Charlie’s even in a relationship with one of the founder’s many sons, but Charlie’s afraid she might have to break up with him since she’s going to be attending a different school far away from Alpha Academy. When Charlie is offered free enrollment to the school if her mother quits her job, Charlie knows what she must to in order to save the relationship – even though she takes the bait, the headmistress at Alpha Academy makes her break up with her son anyway. Allie J Abbott is there on a mistake – after breaking up with her boyfriend, she receives a letter directed to Allie A Abbott – will Allie steal her letter? And how will the girls’ stay all turn out?

My Thoughts:

Oh my gosh. The descriptions of Alpha Academy were so vivid I could cry. Lisi Harrison really did a good job of creating a fantasy island where everything is perfect. While I felt that Lisi did an amazing job with descriptions, I felt like the characters’ personalities were too shallow and she didn’t do quite a good job with dialogue. The book was mainly about girls after guys, and I don’t feel like girls need boyfriends to make them feel better.

This is good for people who are

Alphas would be a good fit for

-romance lovers

-contemporary lovers

-people who love books about teenage girls (and not in the creepy, I-am-a-45-year-old-man sort of way)

-basically anyone over the age of 13

Basically, . . .

Basically, I believe that the best part of Alphas was the school’s description, and the character’s personalities. I really hated Allie J Abbott throughout the whole book, I couldn’t exactly relate to Charlie, and Skye was the only one I actually liked. The storyline/plot was okay, at best, but Lisi’s school was the most amazing part of the entire book. If you fit the This is good for people who are section, like, 100%, then this book is for you. I just don’t think it would be a good fit for everyone.

Thank you so much for reading this review today. Like I said in my “Updates” post (yes, I made it while I was writing up this review!), I’m just going to continue book reviews after Divergent Week is over so your week isn’t so packed with reading reviews. I’m really sorry if that makes anyone upset (if it does, tell me in the comments, okay?), and I just feel like it’s the best fit for me to not have to jam everything into one week. Now that means that the whole month of April will be filled! Yay! That’s a good thing, right? Stay tuned for Divergent Week next week!

What did you think of Alphas? Leave your opinion below!

Social Media & Updates *EDITED*

So many updates, don’t you think? And all in a two-day time span. That’s so crazy. Now, let me get to the point of this post:

About Social Media:

I am in the works of creating a Twitter account. I’ve never had a Twitter account before so please bear with me! I’m going to probably create it in the next week or so, since I’m super busy with reviews and stuff. As for GoodReads, would you like me to create one especially for The Crazy Bookshelf? It’s really up to you guys 🙂 Leave some comments on your opinions, kay?

About Updates:

I guess the social media stuff counts as updates, right? But there’s more. I’m most likely going to be posting the Divergent Week agenda tomorrow, it just depends on how much homework/studying I have to do. That’s scheduled for tomorrow but it could be put up by Saturday at the latest. Also, don’t forget to fill out your Divergent PDF form! Like I mentioned before (did I?), I will be giving away 3 PDF copies of Divergent by Veronica Roth and 1 PDF copy of both Divergent and Insurgent away. Be expecting a ton of new reviews, including Alphas by Lisi Harrison and LA Candy by Lauren Conrad. I’m still about two weeks behind my calendar of reviews, so be expecting a TON in the month of April! I think instead of uploading a whole bunch of reviews this week I’ll just save them all for April 🙂 which means I’ll be changing some of my schedule around. Please bear with me through this! I love you all so much ❤

Stay crazy ❤
